The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted lives since the World Health Organization announced the global pandemic. The development saw a complete change, which led to embracing a new way of life. From lockdowns to keeping a few meters away from people, most of these precautions have become a norm in our environment.
While there has been drastic relief from these rules, these developments continue to pose a question: “Are these new ways of life here to stay?” Well, most new ways of life that emerged during the pandemic have been a major part of our lives. We will explore the post-pandemic life changes that are here to stay in this article.
Why our lives may not be the same again
Different news platforms have reported the nonstop commitment of healthcare workers battling COVID-19, even when exposed to risks. Many of these health workers stay away from their families in temporary abodes. The question is: will they be exposed to these risks for life? There must be a solution to reduce the COVID-19 stress on healthcare systems.
Additionally, many actions stopped when the pandemic broke out a few years ago. As things continue to take shape, we adopt a certain lifestyle after the COVID-19 aftermath. As such, our socialization, commuting, and communication have experienced radical changes, and we will continue it this way for a long time.
Post-pandemic lifestyle changes
The pandemic brought us a different lifestyle when it broke out, although all of it is preventive measures to curb its widespread. The following are the post-pandemic lifestyle changes:
Embrace contactless greetings
Gone are the days when you run into an old-time buddy, and you would want to shake hands and hug each other. With the pandemic, you have to think twice to do this. The “Namaste” greeting replaced the usual handshakes or hugs, a rampant practice among world leaders.
“Namaste” is an Indian style of greeting where you don’t have to contact each other. It was adopted to reduce the spread of the deadly virus. After the pandemic lockdown relief, most people still adopt the Namaste of greeting to ditch the handshake or hugs.
Changing learning pattern
Many schools were forced to shut down, a decision that almost affected every school calendar from the lowest grade to the highest. However, education was only pursued for a while as children have embraced online learning classes to help keep pupils and students active with their education.
This development contributed to the rise in online tutoring, thanks to different online platforms where children can access their subjects. Learning platforms like Duolingo continue to provide continual learning to people without leaving their comfort zones.
People also hold real-time online classes on platforms such as Zoom, ditching the physical class. This educational lifestyle extends across regions.
Remote Jobs
Many people shunned the idea of working from home before the pandemic outbreak, considering some of its side effects, such as loneliness. Some contemplated productivity and even believe it will be challenging for virtual software to substitute in-person meetings.
Some believed that cultivating company morale from a distance could be a challenging practice. However, the pandemic outbreak has squashed many of these assertions as most companies are now adopting more talented, skilled hands to work from their comfort zones. Employees are now acquiring different tech gadgets, while companies are dishing out tools to aid work from home. If there is one post-pandemic lifestyle that is here to stay, then it is remote jobs.
Hand washing
The World Health Organization has always recommended hand washing to curb the spread of certain diseases. Hand washing is one of the activities that have a secluded day of celebration. Celebrated every 15th October, this practice has become a regular part of our lives. The practice has helped in keeping very high personal standards. People now understand the benefits of washing their hands as it can prevent communicable diseases and save lives.
Before the pandemic, most people paid less attention to hand washing. However, the past few years have seen a continual rise in hand washers. This trend will continue for a lifetime.
No more public spitting
Public spitting is a common practice in many countries. Governments often try to create awareness through posters. Some countries also leverage fines on people violating this simple rule; people pay less attention.
However, the use of facial masks in public gatherings has been one of the measures that helped to reduce public spitting. Face masks have also helped maintain personal hygiene and become part of our lives.
Eating Pattern
There has been a significant reduction in the way we dine before the pandemic outbreak. Many restaurants are built in traffic areas where people can easily order their favorite meal and eat. Since the pandemic outbreak, people have paid less attention to the way they eat. Social distancing has reduced eating at any of the roadside restaurants.
During the lockdown, many prefer to order their favorite food online and deliver it to their doorstep. Many people have mastered this practice and even find it one of the most convenient ways to kill hunger. Ordering food online is now part of our lives. Findings also revealed that about two-thirds of adults agreed that they prefer online food to spending some time cooking in the kitchen, even before the pandemic.
Cashless Payments
More online payment platforms have continued to emerge since the post-pandemic era. These payment options were available during the lockdown, as people could only pay via cashless platforms. Payment gateways such as Apple Pay, PayPal, and more continue welcoming more users, becoming necessary for payments.
Although cashless payments have been around for some time, more people have adopted it as a payment option and have become a lifestyle. With the increase in online shopping platforms, people now prefer to pay using these gateways instead of cash.
Conclusion
The COVID-19 outbreak may have caused many havoc and irreplaceable losses of loved ones, but it has helped reshape some basic parts of our lives. With many healthy practices such as hand washing and social distancing, we can always prevent transferable diseases and live healthily.
